Parasites come in all shapes and sizes, and from every direction. Just a quick walk in the yard can expose a pet to all of these parasites. Even "indoor" pets have some exposure. (One mosquito in the house can spread heartworms!) What these parasites have in common is making your pet miserable and presenting a health hazard to pet and human family members.
